How it works

  1. 1

    Choose your PDF

Click Choose a PDF or drop the file here. Compression starts straight away.

  2. 2

    Pick a level

Recommended keeps text perfect. Strong gives the smallest file. You see the new size before you download.

  3. 3

    Download

Click Download to save the smaller copy. Your original file stays unchanged.

Which level should I choose?

Most large PDFs are large because of the photos or scanned pages inside them. Recommended shrinks those images to a sensible resolution and leaves everything else untouched, so text stays crisp, searchable and easy to copy. Start with this one.

Strong redraws every page as a compressed picture. It can make text-heavy or complicated files much smaller, but the text becomes part of the picture: it can’t be selected, searched or read aloud, and links stop working. It’s a good choice when a form or email has a strict size limit.

Why didn’t my PDF get smaller?

If a PDF is mostly text, it’s usually already small, and Recommended may find no photos to shrink. Try Strong. Some images (for example certain black-and-white scans) are already stored very efficiently and can’t be reduced further.

Will my PDF still look the same?

With Recommended, text and drawings are unchanged, and photos look the same on screen but may be slightly softer when zoomed in a long way. With Strong, pages look the same at normal size but text may look a little soft when zoomed in.

Is there a size limit?

Files up to 200 MB. Large files take longer, especially on older phones, because all the work happens on your device.

Can I compress a password-protected PDF?

No. Remove the password or restrictions first, then compress it.
