About AcornDoc
Free PDF and image tools that keep your files on your device.
In short: AcornDoc lets you edit, sign, fill in, redact, merge, split and compress PDFs, and convert images, without uploading anything. It’s free, needs no account and adds no watermarks.
Why AcornDoc exists
Most free PDF websites work by uploading your document to their servers, editing it there and sending it back. That’s a lot of trust to place in a stranger’s computer, especially for leases, tax forms, medical papers or ID copies.
AcornDoc takes a different approach: the work happens inside your own web browser. Your files are opened, changed and saved on your device, and they’re never sent to us or to anyone else. We couldn’t see your documents even if we wanted to.
How it works
When you open a tool, your browser downloads the program that does the work, much like opening an app. From then on, everything happens on your computer or phone. That’s also why it’s fast: there’s nothing to upload and nothing to wait for.
AcornDoc is built on respected open-source software, including Mozilla’s PDF.js for displaying PDFs and pdf-lib for creating them. See our Terms of Use for the full list.
What you can do
- Edit and sign: add text that matches the document, sign, tick boxes, highlight, draw and add images.
- Protect: redact private details so they’re removed from the file for good.
- Organize: merge, split, reorder, rotate and delete pages.
- Shrink and convert: compress PDFs, turn photos into PDFs, and compress or convert images, including iPhone HEIC photos.
We’re upfront about what AcornDoc can’t do yet, too. See Tips & limits.
Who’s behind it
AcornDoc is a small independent project based in Alberta, Canada. It’s free to use and may be supported by ads, which are shown beside the tools and never inside your documents. Our Privacy Policy explains exactly what that means for your data.
